Provide Manicure and Pedicare Services

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide services and advice to clients requiring hand, foot and nail care.


It requires the ability to recognise relevant contraindications and conditions, to understand the structure and function of hands, feet and nails and the effects of treatments and products, and to select and provide services and advice to meet the objectives of the client. The services and advice can be on an individual basis or form part of a series of services.


This unit applies to workers in beauty and nail salons, and spas. In this environment they make routine service decisions within a defined range but are responsible for the selection and provision of services to clients.

Course Content 

In this Skill Course you will learn the skills to provide Manicure and Pedicare including cleansing, hand and foot massage, shaping and application of nail polish. You will also learn how to safely use products and equipment and the application of legislation and policy, particularly in regard to hygiene.


Course includes: 

  • Establish client priorities

  • Prepare for nail service 

  • Provide nail service

  • Review service

  • Clean treatment area

Course Outcome 

Successfully completing this short course and being assessed as competent will lead to the issuance of a Statement of Attainment in:

SHBBNLS001 Provide manicure and pedicare services

Pre-Requisites: Nil

Entry Requirements: There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, you must have a minimum of Year 10 literacy and numeracy skills or English skills equivalent to a minimum of level two of the Australian Second Language Proficiency Rating.


  • 5 days 9am -  5pm + 1 day for assessment

  • 12 hours in the student clinic (3 half days from 12pm – 4pm) on the days of your choice within the scheduled timetable.
