A combination of classroom – face-to-face with a trainer, home-study and supervised clinic placement.
During your course you will need to cover and understand the theory and practical application of a number of subjects. Your attendance is essential as you will be conducting hands-on practice in IPL. Intense pulsed light is a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes, including hair removal, photo rejuvenation as well as to alleviate dermatologic diseases such as acne.

Throughout the 40 academic weeks, students will spend three days per week in a salon working with laser and IPL equipment. After the theoretical content is completed, students undertake a minimum of 200 hours of supervised work placement in practice clinic.

Our courses are structured in a way that allows you to build your knowledge and skills in a logical sequence over time.
Our courses are broken up into units of study, study periods or topics. In each period you will be given a set of learning materials, which will typically include a learner guide as well as the assessment tasks you need to complete for that period. The Learner Guide will contain a number of readings and Learning Activities to complete. The activities are designed to help you gain a clear understanding of the content in your Learner Guides. These activities will enhance your learning. Unless you have prior knowledge and skills in the subject, you will disadvantage your learning if you do not complete these activities before starting your assessment.
Literacy and Student Support
If you believe you may have a learning or literacy problem, please tell us prior to enrolling. We can give you a literacy and numeracy self-assessment to help you pinpoint where you need help. At some point during your studies, you may feel you can’t go on or just need help. The college is here to help you as much as possible. You are encouraged to discuss any issue with staff.
Your assessments are an important part of your course and must be completed in order for you to progress through your course and to receive your qualification. To be awarded a Nationally Recognised Training qualification, you must demonstrate that you have achieved all the units of competency that make up the qualification. Evidence of competence is assessed through your assessment tasks.
Attendance and Punctuality
All students are required to maintain a level of attendance of 80% or above at all times. Trainers will mark the class roll for each class that participants attend. If any participant leaves a class early or arrives late, this will be recorded onto the roll books.
The attendance rolls will be reviewed fortnightly to ensure that the required attendance of participants is maintained.
Students with attendance issues may contact us at any time to arrange an interview with trainer. The purpose of this interview is to ensure that the student is fully aware of their responsibilities and providing them with the opportunity to discuss and determine a solution to any issues or circumstances that are affecting their attendance.
A student who cannot attend any class is requested to submit an explanatory note or Doctors Certificate as soon as is practicable.
Credit for Prior Studies
Learners must not be required to repeat any unit or module in which they have already been assessed as competent, unless a regulatory requirement or license condition (including industry licensing schemes) requires this. Where a learner provides suitable evidence that they have successfully completed a unit or module at any RTO, the RTO must provide credit for that unit or module. In some cases, licensing or regulatory requirements may prevent a unit or module being awarded through a credit process. e.g. CPR and First Aid.
Credit must be granted not only for studies completed at an RTO, but at any authorised issuing organisation, such as a university. In such cases, an analysis as to the equivalence of the study completed with the relevant unit/s or module/s would need to be completed before any credit could be granted.
The RTO is not obliged to issue a qualification or statement of attainment that is achieved wholly through recognition of units and/or modules completed at another RTO or RTOs.
Before providing credit on the basis of a qualification, statement of attainment or record of results, you should authenticate the information in the document (e.g. by contacting the organisation that issued the document and confirming the content is valid).
Note that providing credit for previous studies is not recognition of prior learning (RPL) process. RPL is a form of assessment of the competence of a person, while providing credit is recognising the equivalence of studies previously undertaken and completed successfully.
If an applicant wishes to apply for recognition for the qualification that they have received from another RTO, they must present the original for sighting or provide a certified copy of the certificate with their enrolment.
The RTO must then verify the certificate to ensure its legitimacy and currency. The RTO will write on the copy of the certificate the date and person they spoke to when verifying the qualification. The outcome of the application will then be communicated to the applicant.
Recognition of Prior Learning
The RTO provides a user-friendly, supportive, streamlined framework for the assessment and recognition of various types of prior competencies obtained by an individual through previous or current training, work experience and / or life experience.
The underlying principle of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is that no individual / participant should be required to undertake a unit of study in a training session for which they are able to demonstrate satisfactory achievement of the required competency standard or learning outcome for entry into, and/or partial or total completion of a qualification.
This policy therefore aims to maximise the recognition of an individual’s prior skills and knowledge whilst at all times maintaining the integrity and standards of the defined learning outcomes of the specific course of study.
Assessment will take place by a qualified assessor who has successfully completed Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) and who has the vocational competencies in the unit they are assessing the participant’s competency against. Graduation and Certification
Once you have completed your course, you will receive the following:
Record of completion( Diploma, Certificate or Statement of Attainment )
Academic Transcript (for Nationally Recognised qualifications only)
Phytodermal Institute of Beauty issues a Statement of Attainment when an individual has completed one or more units of competency from a Nationally Recognised Training qualification.
To be awarded your Nationally Recognised Training qualification or Statement of Attainment you must have:
successfully completed all assessments;
been deemed to be competent in all your areas of study;
met all your financial obligations;
